In my late teens, I wanted to be a rock star but that didn’t happen. In 1999 or so, I had the chance to work for John Running and he opened my eyes to the art world. By day I worked for John, and by night he allowed me the use of his studio to work on my own sculptures. Along this path, metal came into my grasp and I got exited about using the medium for sculpture projects. The possibilities seemed endless and the lasting qualities that it held were intriguing but I still didn’t have a clue as to how to truly control the beast. In about 2000, I got to work for Bob Bentley. He and Russell Winbiel took me on as an apprentice and for the next four years, as a young man, the foundation of my craft was built. During this time, I had the chance to work on side jobs to start the collection of my tools (this is a never ending collection and a sickness). Somehow or another people kept asking me to make things and I kept making them, thus the birth of Canaday Designs in about 04’.
Along this journey my lovely wife Bethani and I got married in 01’ and our boys Kyzen and Jaden joined us in 06’ and 08’. We enjoy a simple life and I get to have lunch with them most every day. If the weather permits I just might go for a ride on the motorcycle (and then finish my work after the family goes to bed).
I have been published in books and magazines and all that crap, but the most important part of my job is when I finish a project and my client gets to appreciate there new work of art. For the most part I only do my own designs and every design is based on my client and the surrounding decor of the project. I believe in continuity of space and the emotional response that an environment can produce. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.
